Bio
Recruited from local club Cheltenham where he was a teenage standout, Arthur Rose was a promising talent whose VFL career was severely curtailed by the Second World War. He broke into the St Kilda senior side as an 18-year-old in 1937 and became a regular fixture over the next three seasons, but his progress was halted when he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1941. Rose served in the Middle East, Borneo, and New Guinea, missing the entirety of the 1941–1943 seasons, though he made a memorable cameo in 1944 when he managed to play two games for the Saints while on military leave. He did not return to VFL level following his discharge in late 1945, instead crossing to the VFA where he became a premiership player with Brighton before eventually returning to coach his junior club.
