Bio
Arthur Digby Smith was a diminutive footballer from East Gippsland who played a lone season for South Melbourne at the dawn of the 20th century. Recruited from Bairnsdale, the 171cm lightweight made his debut in the opening round of 1901 and managed nine senior appearances for the club. His time at Lake Oval was fleeting, as he departed the metropolitan competition the following year to head for the goldfields. Smith joined the Bendigo Football Association in 1902, where he was recruited alongside his brother to play for the Bendigo club, continuing his career in the thriving regional competition of the era before eventually returning to Melbourne later in life.
