Bio
Artie Archer was a seasoned campaigner from the pre-VFL era who provided valuable experience to a struggling St Kilda outfit in the league's infancy. Having originally represented the Saints in the VFA from 1893 to 1896, Archer ventured west to play for Fremantle in the WAFA during 1897, missing the inaugural VFL season. He returned to Junction Oval for the 1898 season, adding depth to the lineup as the club sought to establish itself in the new competition. However, his comeback was cut tragically short after just five games when he suffered a severe knee injury against Carlton in Round 7, forcing him from the field and permanently ending his senior football career.
