Bio
Recruited from Scotch College, Ashley Vines joined University during the club’s declining years in the VFL, stepping into a side that was increasingly outmatched by its professional rivals. He found himself toiling in a defence under constant siege, managing 17 appearances across two seasons as the Students struggled to stem the flow of opposition goals. Vines played his football exclusively for the amateur club, seeing his VFL career cut short when University withdrew from the league following the winless 1914 season due to the outbreak of World War I and a depleted playing list.
