Bio
Selected by North Melbourne with the 14th pick in the 2001 National Draft, Ashley Watson arrived at Arden Street from the Bendigo Pioneers carrying the high expectations associated with a first-round selection. A skillful left-footed midfielder capable of finding space on the wing or half-forward flank, the Rochester product struggled to bridge the gap between under-18s dominance and the physical demands of senior AFL football. Despite his clean disposal and promising junior pedigree, Watson found opportunities scarce in a competitive Kangaroos lineup, managing just seven games across four seasons on the list. Unable to secure a regular position or overcome the step up in intensity, he was delisted at the end of 2005, eventually returning to country football where he enjoyed a decorated career.
