Stats
Bio
Recruited from local outfit Flemington Presbyterians after a junior stint with Wodonga, Athol Cerini was a promising rover who earned his senior promotion through the Essendon seconds. He made an immediate impact upon his call-up in the 1928 season, slotting two goals across his first two appearances to suggest a bright future at Windy Hill. However, his VFL career was brutally curtailed almost as soon as it began; Cerini suffered a shattered nose in just his second match, an injury severe enough that he chose to hang up the boots immediately rather than risk further damage. He walked away from the game to focus on a long career with the Post Office, leaving behind a brief but effective cameo in the Bombers' history books.
