Bio
Recruited from Cooee in north-western Tasmania, Athol Hodgetts arrived at North Melbourne with a burgeoning reputation as a potent key forward, having already starred for his state in a famous 1970 victory over Western Australia. His VFL career was unfortunately curtailed by persistent injuries, restricting him to just nine senior games despite a promising return of 15 goals. He subsequently returned to Tasmania to dominate the NWFU goalkicking tables with both Cooee and Wynyard before embarking on a successful second chapter in the VFA, where he won a best and fairest with Coburg. While his time at the top level was brief, Hodgetts later left an indelible mark on the game as a high-profile administrator, eventually serving as the VFA's executive director and overseeing the competition's restructuring in the late 1980s.
