Bio
Recruited from Moonee Ponds, Athol Sharp was a robust forward pocket and second rover who became a key fixture in Carlton's attack during the mid-1910s. While injury cost him a place in the Blues' 1914 premiership side, he made amends the following season, tasting ultimate success as a member of the 1915 flag-winning team. His luck turned again in 1916 when a broken collarbone forced him to miss the Grand Final loss to Fitzroy. Following a hiatus to serve in World War I, Sharp returned to Princes Park for a final season in 1920, retiring as a premiership player whose career statistics were significantly curtailed by both injury and military service.
