The son of former South Melbourne player Austin Robertson Sr, Austin Robertson Jnr arrived at the Lakeside Oval from Subiaco with a reputation as a goal-kicking machine. A lightning-quick full-forward with exceptional leading patterns and laser-like accuracy, he made an immediate impact in the VFL during the 1966 season. Despite booting 60 goals in just 18 games and boasting the highest goal-per-game average in the league that year, his stay in Victoria was fleeting. Citing homesickness and financial considerations, he returned to the WAFL where he cemented his legacy as the competition's all-time leading goalkicker with over 1200 majors, leaving South Melbourne fans with a brief but brilliant glimpse of his elite talent.
