Bio
Standing just 157cm, Barclay "Titch" Bailes was a diminutive rover and wingman who played a pivotal role in Fitzroy's success during the mid-1900s. Originally from Bendigo, he arrived at Brunswick Street in 1905 after a brief stint in the WAFL with Perth, immediately cementing his place in history by being regarded as best afield in the Maroons' 1905 premiership win over Collingwood. Known for his evasiveness and brilliant use of the ball, Bailes won the club champion award in 1907 and represented Victoria at the historic 1908 Jubilee Carnival. His VFL career ended abruptly after the 1909 season when, following a drop in form and a dispute with the committee, he was granted a controversial clearance to join his brother at VFA club Brighton.
