Bio
Recruited from the Ulverstone Football Club in Tasmania's North West Football Union, Barney Howard was a tall utility who briefly broke into the North Melbourne lineup during the 1962 season. Standing 185cm, he offered a strong physical presence and made his senior debut in Round 1 on Easter Monday against South Melbourne at the Lake Oval. Despite kicking a goal during his short stint at the top level, Howard's VFL career was limited to just two senior appearances before he returned to his home state. He remained a staunch figure at the Ulverstone club and established a significant family legacy in Tasmanian football, with his son Nathan Howard going on to become a Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame inductee and a star for the Tasmanian Devils.
