Bio
A stocky and opportunistic forward recruited from Mildura, Barney Jorgensen is best remembered as a prolific VFA goal-kicker who made a brief cameo in the VFL during the tumultuous years of World War II. After establishing himself at Camberwell with a breakout 1941 season, Jorgensen was called up to the top tier in 1942 to help fill the void left by player shortages, initially donning the brown and gold for Hawthorn. He managed just four senior appearances for the Mayblooms before switching to St Kilda the following season, where he played another four games as clubs scrambled to field competitive lists during the war. Standing 177cm with a solid frame, he was a dangerous option near goal in the Association but found opportunities limited at the elite level, ultimately returning to Camberwell in 1945 to resume a successful VFA career.
