Bio
Born in London and recruited from the local Carlton Juniors, Barney Lazarus holds a unique place in history as one of the VFL's earliest Jewish players. He broke into the senior side during the pivotal 1902 season, playing as a defender on the half-back flank where he helped the Blues secure a rare and morale-boosting win over Geelong at Corio Oval. His time at Princes Park was brief, limited to just seven appearances before he eventually relocated to Sydney. Lazarus extended his football career in the Harbour City, turning out for Redfern and representing New South Wales in interstate matches against top-tier opposition.
