Bio
A rare New Zealand-born recruit, Percival "Barney" Wood arrived at the Demons via Melbourne Grammar and Old Melburnians, where he had established a reputation as a skilled centreman in the amateur competition. His VFL career was brief, restricted to just five senior appearances during the 1928 season before business commitments necessitated a move to Western Australia later that year. Wood continued his football journey in the WAFL with Perth and further demonstrated his elite sporting versatility by playing first-class cricket for his adopted state. His life was cut tragically short during World War II, where he was killed in action while serving with the AIF in the Middle East.
