Bio
Recruited from Sale in the Gippsland region, Barry Beitzel was a wingman whose family name became synonymous with football media through his cousin, the legendary umpire and commentator Harry Beitzel. Despite showing significant promise at Princes Park—winning the reserves Best and Fairest award in 1955—he struggled to break into the senior side, managing just two VFL appearances that season. Seeking greater opportunities, he crossed to the VFA in 1957 to join his brother Eric at Williamstown. The move proved successful, as Beitzel became a key contributor for the Seagulls, playing in back-to-back premierships in 1958 and 1959 before retiring at the end of 1960.
