Bio
Recruited from University High School Old Boys, Barry Perry was an elegant half-forward who worked his way through the Magpies' under-19s and reserves before breaking into the senior side late in the 1961 season. Standing just under six feet with a slight frame, Perry was a balanced, classy user of the ball who relied on skill rather than physical presence. His brief VFL career is best remembered for his second and final appearance—a dramatic draw against Essendon at Windy Hill—where he booted his only senior goal while playing alongside Murray Weideman. Following the tragic death of his brother, Perry shifted his focus from football to legal studies, briefly trialling with Fitzroy and Preston before leaving the game to pursue a distinguished career as the Victorian Ombudsman.
