Bio
Recruited from local side Abbotsford, Barry Price debuted for Collingwood as a 17-year-old and quickly established himself as one of the most skilful centremen of his generation. While the Magpies of that era were often characterised by grit, Price provided pure class, renowned for his dual-sided kicking, balance, and exceptional handballing vision. He claimed the Copeland Trophy in 1969 and earned state selection for Victoria, forming a lethal midfield combination with Wayne Richardson that drove the club's engine room for over a decade.
However, Price's career was frequently interrupted by injury, preventing him from accumulating the game tally his talent warranted. He managed just 158 appearances across 14 seasons, often struggling to stay on the park during the club's numerous finals campaigns and notably missing the 1977 and 1979 Grand Finals due to fitness issues. Despite these setbacks, he remained a loyal one-club servant, retiring in 1979 and later continuing his association with the Magpies as football manager, cementing his status as a key figure in the club's history off the field as well as on it.
