Bio
Recruited from Tatura in the Goulburn Valley, Smith was a diminutive rover and forward who produced a memorable flash of brilliance during his solitary season at Princes Park. Standing just 170cm, he burst onto the scene in 1960 and dominated in only his second league appearance, booting five goals against Geelong to account for half of Carlton’s entire score that afternoon. Despite that electrifying performance, he was unable to sustain his spot in the senior side, adding just two more majors across his remaining matches. His VFL career concluded after six games, and he was cleared to North Ballarat the following year to continue playing in the country leagues.
