Teams

Barry Standfield arrived at Footscray from Fish Creek with pick 13 in the 1989 National Draft, establishing himself as a versatile key position player capable of swinging between centre half-back and centre half-forward. He became a reliable fixture in the Bulldogs' lineup during the early 1990s, renowned for his strong overhead marking and competitive nature in aerial contests. After playing 98 games for the club and featuring in the 1992 and 1994 finals series, Standfield was traded to Adelaide ahead of the 1997 season as the Crows sought to bolster their tall stocks.

His brief tenure in South Australia resulted in one of the era's more notable hard-luck stories. Standfield played 13 games in his debut season for the Crows, including the dramatic Preliminary Final victory over his former side, the Western Bulldogs. However, despite playing his part in getting the team to the precipice of glory, match committee decisions saw him heartbreakingly omitted from the Grand Final side that secured Adelaide's maiden premiership. He retired shortly after, leaving the game as a centurion who narrowly missed out on the ultimate success.
