Stats
Bio
Recruited from local club Maribyrnong, Barry Thornton was a serviceable utility player who struggled to cement a permanent spot in a strong Footscray lineup. Standing 180cm, he was often used in defensive roles, managing just two goals across his three seasons at the Western Oval. His most significant contribution came during the club’s famous 1961 campaign, where he played a career-high 10 matches as the Bulldogs surged toward their second Grand Final appearance. Despite being a regular contributor that year, Thornton ultimately missed selection for the Grand Final loss to Hawthorn, and his VFL career concluded at the end of that season.
