Bio
John Basil Nehill was a diminutive rover recruited from South Ballarat who earned two separate opportunities at VFL level in the years preceding World War I. Born in Terang, he initially broke into the St Kilda side in 1912, playing 13 games in his debut season before being discarded by the club. Nehill returned to the Ballarat Football Association for the 1913 season, featuring in a dominant South Ballarat outfit that included several former league players. His form in the country earned him a lifeline from Essendon in 1914, but he managed just two senior appearances for the Same Olds before a mid-year clearance to Geelong failed to result in further senior selection. Following his football career, Nehill enlisted in the AIF in 1916, serving with the 37th Battalion in France and England until his discharge in 1919.
