Recruited with the heavy expectation accompanying the sixth overall selection in the 2005 National Draft, Beau Dowler's career was compromised almost immediately by a serious car accident that resulted in a fractured pelvis. A mobile key position prospect originally touted as a future focal point for the attack, the Oakleigh Chargers product faced the unenviable task of trying to break into a forward line that was rapidly evolving around superstars Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead. While the Hawks experimented with moving him into defence to utilize his height and athleticism, Dowler could not gain traction in a side entering its premiership window. Unable to overcome the combination of early injury setbacks and immense squad depth, he was delisted at the end of the 2010 season.
