Bio
Recruited from Claremont in the WAFL, Ben Allan established himself as one of the premier midfielders of the early 1990s during a decorated stint with Hawthorn. A smooth-moving left-footer with elite distribution skills and a reliable eye for goal, Allan was a vital component of the Hawks' 1991 premiership side, a season in which he also claimed the Peter Crimmins Medal. His ability to find space in traffic and deliver the ball with precision made him a standout operator in the centre of the ground, earning him two All-Australian blazers during his time at Glenferrie Oval.
When the Fremantle Dockers entered the AFL in 1995, Allan was the fledgling club's priority recruit, returning to Western Australia to serve as the team's inaugural captain. While his leadership provided crucial stability during the Dockers' formative years, his time on the park was increasingly hampered by persistent injuries. He retired after just three seasons with the port club but remained influential, later stepping in as a caretaker coach and serving on the board, cementing his status as a key foundational figure in Fremantle's history.
