Bio
A stocky utility with sharp goal sense, Ben Beams is a Tasmanian football legend whose AFL career is best remembered for one of the most unexpected Grand Final call-ups in history. Originally recruited from Glenorchy via the rookie list, he fought his way into the senior side as a rotation forward capable of finding space inside 50. In 2000, fresh off winning a VFL premiership with Sandringham, he was summoned as a late replacement for the injured Cameron Bruce on Grand Final day against the unstoppable Essendon juggernaut. Beams saw minimal game time during the heavy defeat and was delisted just a year later, but he subsequently carved out a distinguished legacy in his home state, captaining the Tassie Devils in the VFL and earning induction into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
