Bio
Ben Cavarra had to wait longer than most for his opportunity, carving out a reputation as an elite state-league performer before finally earning his shot at the top level. Despite winning the Morrish Medal as the TAC Cup's best player in 2013, he was overlooked in multiple drafts, eventually forcing his way onto the AFL radar through consistent excellence with Williamstown in the VFL. Selected by the Western Bulldogs as a mature-age recruit with pick 45 in the 2019 National Draft, he arrived at the Kennel as a tenacious small forward known for his defensive pressure and goal sense. He managed to debut in the opening round of the 2020 season, but injuries—specifically hamstring and quad issues—significantly hampered his ability to string games together. Cavarra played just four games over three seasons, kicking four goals, before being delisted at the conclusion of the 2021 season, leaving the AFL system as a player whose persistence was rewarded with a brief but hard-earned taste of senior football.
