Bio
Hailing from Albury, Ben Doolan was a standout junior talent who represented NSW before cutting his teeth at senior level with the Sydney Swans. After two promising seasons in the Harbour City, he crossed to Essendon ahead of the 1993 season in a high-profile move that carried significant expectations. However, his start at Windy Hill was stalled by the inability to break into the senior side during his first year, forcing him to watch from the sidelines as the "Baby Bombers" surged to an unexpected premiership victory.
When he finally established himself in the lineup, Doolan proved to be a tough and skilled defender capable of playing tall or small. His career-best form arrived in 1996, where he finished fourth in the Crichton Medal and earned the club's Most Improved award, becoming a key pillar in the Bombers' backline. Despite this peak, his time at Essendon was frequently interrupted by injuries, including foot issues that restricted his continuity. He retired at the end of 1999 after playing in a Reserves premiership, departing the club just as they were on the verge of their dominant 2000 campaign.
