Bio
Selected by Richmond with pick 19 in the 2009 National Draft, Ben Griffiths was an athletic key forward and relief ruckman whose AFL career was ultimately curtailed by injury. Possessing a booming kick and the capacity to take strong contested marks, Griffiths offered a formidable structural presence when fit, often serving as a foil for Jack Riewoldt inside 50. However, he struggled to build momentum throughout his nine seasons at Punt Road due to a wretched run of medical setbacks, including multiple shoulder operations and recurring concussions that limited his continuity. Despite showing significant promise during patch appearances, he retired in early 2018 to pursue an American football punting scholarship at the University of Southern California, leaving the game just as the Tigers entered their premiership era.
