Beginning his career with Carlton, Ben Harrison managed just two senior appearances during the Blues' dominant premiership campaign of 1995 before seeking greater opportunities elsewhere. He was effectively swapped for Justin Murphy in a trade to Richmond, where he spent five seasons establishing himself as a versatile utility capable of playing effectively at half-forward or on a wing. While he became a regular fixture in the Tigers' lineup, often noted for his precise kicking and work rate, he truly found his niche after crossing to the Western Bulldogs prior to the 2001 season.

At the Bulldogs, Harrison reinvented himself as a disciplined, close-checking defender and run-with player who could shut down dangerous small forwards while providing rebound from the back half. His professionalism and leadership qualities were highly regarded at the Whitten Oval, eventually seeing him elevated to the vice-captaincy behind Chris Grant. He retired in 2005 as a respected journeyman who had maximised his talent across three clubs, evolving from a fringe forward into a key defensive pillar and on-field leader.
