Teams

A skillful half-forward capable of kicking effectively on either foot, Ben Kavanagh began his VFL tenure on the periphery at Essendon where he managed just two senior appearances in 1927. Seeking greater opportunity, he crossed to North Melbourne the following season and immediately established himself as a dangerous option in attack, finishing as the Shinboners' second-highest goalkicker in 1928. Renowned for his ability to hit targets with accurate stab passes from the flank, Kavanagh played two seasons at Arden Street before departing the top flight to become a titan of the Mordialloc Football Club. His contribution to the game extended well beyond his VFL statistics, with his decades of service to local football eventually immortalised through the naming of the Ben Kavanagh Reserve.
