Bio
Recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with pick nine in the 2007 National Draft, Ben McEvoy initially established himself at St Kilda as a ruckman with elite endurance and contested marking ability. He featured in the 2010 Grand Final series and appeared set for a long tenure at Moorabbin, but became the centrepiece of a ruthless list management decision at the end of 2013. The rebuilding Saints traded him to Hawthorn to secure early draft picks, a high-profile switch that paid immediate dividends for the Hawks as McEvoy anchored the ruck division in the club's back-to-back premierships in 2014 and 2015.
Renowned for his courage to drop back into the hole and intercept possession, McEvoy offered significant utility beyond the centre circle. In the latter stages of his career, he was frequently deployed as a key defender, using his aerial strength to support the backline structure when the team's ruck stocks permitted. His standing within the game was solidified when he was appointed Hawthorn captain for his final two seasons, leading the club through a difficult regeneration period before retiring in 2022 as a dual premiership player and highly respected leader.
