Bio
Recruited from South Fremantle with pick 35 in the 2010 National Draft, Ben Newton endured a frustrating start to his AFL career at Port Adelaide, where significant injuries—including a knee reconstruction—restricted him to just four games in four seasons. Seeking greater opportunity, the classy left-footed midfielder joined Melbourne as a delisted free agent ahead of the 2015 season. While he possessed strong clearance instincts and the ability to hit the scoreboard, Newton struggled to find consistency at the senior level and often found himself on the fringe of selection. Despite showing flashes of his potential and performing strongly in the VFL, he was unable to cement a permanent spot in the Demons' midfield rotation and was delisted at the end of 2016.
