Bio
Recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with pick 46 in the 2017 National Draft, Ben Paton established himself at St Kilda as a disciplined small defender capable of performing lockdown roles on dangerous forwards. His trajectory at Moorabbin peaked during the 2020 season where he became a fixture in the backline, but a severe double leg break in the pre-season saw him miss the entire 2021 campaign. Although he returned to play 20 games in 2022, Paton struggled to consistently cement his spot in the best 22 under Ross Lyon in subsequent years, often finding himself on the fringe of selection. After being delisted by the Saints following the 2024 season, the 75-game backman was thrown an AFL lifeline by Sydney as a delisted free agent, joining the Swans for 2025 to provide experienced depth to their defensive unit.
