Bio
Recruited from Norwood with pick 40 in the 2009 Rookie Draft, Ben Speight was a pacy half-forward and midfielder who offered North Melbourne a spark of speed and creativity. He made a memorable entrance to the top level by kicking a goal with his first kick in AFL football during his debut in late 2010. Speight enjoyed his most consistent run in 2011, where his line-breaking ability and sharp goal sense made him a valuable asset, particularly when injecting energy into games as a substitute. Despite this promising start, he found it difficult to cement a permanent position in the Kangaroos' senior lineup, eventually falling out of favour due to form fluctuations and a shoulder injury. He was delisted at the conclusion of the 2013 season without adding to his game tally in his final two years, subsequently forging a successful VFL career as a long-serving player for Werribee.
