Bio
Recruited from East Perth with pick 46 in the 2009 National Draft, Ben Stratton arrived at Hawthorn and immediately established himself as a key pillar in Alastair Clarkson's defensive unit. Renowned for his courage, spoiling ability, and selfless role-playing, he became an integral member of the Hawks' dynasty, securing three consecutive premierships between 2013 and 2015. While often flying under the radar compared to high-profile teammates, Stratton was highly rated internally for his capacity to quell dangerous small and medium forwards, rarely losing a one-on-one contest.
A cult figure among supporters due to his uncompromising style and scarcity of goals, Stratton's value lay strictly in his defensive reliability rather than offensive output. He was elevated to the club captaincy in 2019, leading the side during a challenging transition period following the tenure of Jarryd Roughead. Stratton retired at the conclusion of the 2020 season as a one-club player, finishing his career with 202 games and a legacy as one of the most dependable backmen of his era.
