Bio
A mature-age recruit from the VFL, Ben Thompson was given an opportunity at the highest level when St Kilda selected him with pick 82 in the 1997 National Draft. Previously a standout for Springvale, he entered the AFL system at age 24, offering the Saints a ready-made option in defence capable of handling senior bodies. He made his debut in Round 4 of the 1998 season against Adelaide and managed nine games in his first year, often utilized for his physical maturity and defensive application. However, opportunities proved scarce the following season as the club transitioned to a new coaching regime, and Thompson added just two more senior appearances to his tally before being delisted at the conclusion of the 1999 campaign.
