Bio
Recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers with the 13th selection in the 1997 National Draft, Ben Walton arrived at St Kilda as a highly touted key position prospect. A versatile tall capable of playing at either end of the ground, he possessed strong marking ability and athleticism, initially viewed as a potential long-term structural pillar for the Saints. After spending his first year developing in the reserves, he broke into the senior side in 1999 and showed glimpses of his potential, most notably booting four goals against Port Adelaide in 2000. However, consistency proved elusive during a turbulent era for the club marked by coaching instability, and unable to cement a permanent spot in the best 22, he was delisted at the conclusion of the 2001 season.
