Bio
Recruited from Montmorency in the Diamond Valley Football League, Bernie Drury broke into the Fitzroy lineup as a teenager during a bleak era for the club. He played six senior games in the 1966 season, a campaign where the Lions finished bottom of the ladder with just one win, creating a difficult environment for a young forward to make an impact. Although he went goalless during his brief VFL career, Drury proved his scoring capacity upon returning to his home club the following season. Rejoining Montmorency in 1967, he flourished as a full-forward and topped the competition's goal-kicking list with 69 majors, establishing himself as a premier local talent after his stint at the Brunswick Street Oval.
