Honours

Recruited from South Melbourne City, Bernie Evans debuted for South Melbourne in 1978 and became a key figure during the club's turbulent relocation to Sydney. A flamboyant and skilled rover with an eye for goal, Evans was instantly recognisable by his blonde locks and energetic playstyle. He was a dangerous proposition inside 50, possessing the ability to drift forward and kick multiple goals, a trait highlighted when he topped the Swans' goalkicking in 1984. Despite being a consistent performer and a fan favourite in Sydney, he sought a fresh start after the 1985 season and was traded to Carlton.

The move to Princes Park proved to be the defining decision of his career. While he missed out on the Blues' 1986 Grand Final appearance, Evans solidified his spot in the side the following year, playing a vital role as a changing rover in the 1987 premiership victory over Hawthorn. He provided experience and goal-scoring power to the Carlton midfield during a successful era, eventually retiring in 1989. He is remembered as a colourful character who successfully transitioned from being a standout in a struggling side to a premiership player in a powerhouse team.
