Bio
A diminutive recruit from Brunswick in the VFA, Bernie Fyffe was one of many footballers who found an opportunity at the top level while the second-tier competition was in recess during the Second World War. Standing at just 163cm, the lightweight rover and forward pocket made an immediate impact upon his debut for Fitzroy in 1943, booting three goals across his two appearances for the Maroons. Despite showing an early eye for goal, he was unable to cement a regular spot and crossed to St Kilda for the 1944 season, where he added another two senior games to his tally without hitting the scoreboard. Fyffe's brief tenure remains a characteristic example of the transient playing lists during the wartime era, where VFA talent frequently filled vacancies left by servicemen.
