Stats
Bio
Recruited from Yarrawonga in the Ovens and Murray Football League, Bernie Ryan was a tall but lightly-framed utility who played briefly for Geelong during the mid-1950s. Standing 183cm yet weighing only 73kg, he lacked the bulk for key positions but possessed enough versatility to break into Reg Hickey’s senior side late in the 1956 season. Ryan played four consecutive matches from Round 13 to Round 16—including a debut win over Hawthorn at Kardinia Park—but lost his spot prior to the club's finals campaign. He managed five more senior appearances throughout 1957, drifting in and out of the starting eighteen without cementing a permanent role, and finished his VFL career with nine games and four goals.
