Bio
Originally from Tasmania, Bert "Poddy" Davie was recruited to the Pivotonians from the Geelong Cadets during the height of the First World War. He broke into the senior side as an 18-year-old, benefiting from the league-wide player shortage to notch regular games throughout the 1917 and 1918 seasons. While he struggled to hold his spot once servicemen began returning to the club in 1919, he managed to boot his solitary career goal in his final VFL appearance. A talented all-round sportsman, Davie arguably achieved greater prominence on the cricket pitch, later enjoying a first-class career as an opening batsman representing both Tasmania and Victoria.
