Stats
Bio
Recruited from Mordialloc, Bert Day established himself as one of the VFL's premier defenders during the tumultuous World War I era. A reliable fullback, he debuted late in 1914 and quickly became an automatic selection, playing every match of the 1915 season before his career was interrupted by Essendon's two-year withdrawal from the league due to the war. He returned in 1918 without missing a beat, immediately reclaiming his post in the last line of defence where he was known for his consistency and ability to quell opposition spearheads. His standing in the game was confirmed when he won selection to represent Victoria in 1920, and he remained a key fixture in the Bombers' backline until his final season in 1921.
