Family

Recruited from Northcote and the local juniors, Bert Lenne established himself as a reliable full-back for Fitzroy during one of the club's most successful eras. He was a key pillar in the Maroons' defensive unit for over a decade, playing an instrumental role in the 1913 and 1916 premiership victories. Known for his discipline and ability to nullify opposition forwards, Lenne was a consistent performer who rarely missed a game, anchoring a backline that helped define Fitzroy as a powerhouse of the time.

His tenure at Brunswick Street came to a controversial end in 1922 when, despite being a long-serving veteran, he was omitted from the Grand Final side that went on to win the flag. Disappointed by the selection snub, Lenne requested a clearance to St Kilda the following season. He played out the final two years of his VFL career at the Junction Oval, adding valuable experience to the Saints' defence before eventually moving to country football to captain-coach Benalla.
