Bio
Recruited from the Brunswick Street Methodists in the local church competitions, Bert McDonald was a diminutive rover and forward who earned a brief trial with the Magpies in the middle of the 1913 season. Standing just 169cm, he relied on agility and sharp goal sense rather than physical size, making an immediate impact on the scoreboard with four majors in his three senior appearances. Despite this promising strike rate, McDonald was unable to cement a permanent place in a Collingwood lineup that was destined for that year's Grand Final, eventually drifting out of the VFL system almost as quickly as he had arrived.
