Stats
Bio
Recruited from West Melbourne, Bert Ryan came to Essendon with a glowing resume as a two-time VFA leading goalkicker and a premiership player. Despite his reputation as a prolific spearhead in the Association, his lone VFL season saw him unable to replicate his scoring dominance, managing just three goals across 15 games while reportedly spending time in defence. He was a constant presence in the lineup throughout the home-and-away season but faced the brutal disappointment of being omitted for the finals series, forcing him to watch from the sidelines as the Dons fell to Carlton in the 1908 Grand Final. Ryan returned to the VFA the following year, continuing his career with Brighton and Northcote.
