Bio
Recruited from the Riverina town of Finley, Bert Taylor arrived at Melbourne in 1934 as the tallest player in the VFL, standing at a then-gigantic 198cm. A left-footed ruckman, he was known for his ability to cover the ground with surprising pace and agility for his size, although he was sometimes criticised for not fully utilising his height in aerial contests. Taylor enjoyed a breakout season in 1935, earning selection for the Big V in interstate matches against Western Australia and South Australia. His time at the top level was ultimately short-lived; after nearly quitting midway through the 1936 season, he played out the year before returning home to coach Finley in 1937.
