Bio
Recruited from Werribee, Bill Baxter was the younger brother of Carlton champion Ken Baxter and a versatile utility who alternated between half-back and half-forward. After featuring in a Reserves premiership during his debut 1939 season, he became a regular fixture in the senior side throughout 1940, playing 14 games for the eventual premiers. However, his campaign ended in heartbreak when an injury sustained in the Preliminary Final forced him to miss Melbourne's Grand Final victory over Richmond. Baxter managed just three appearances the following year before his VFL career was effectively ended by military service during World War II.
