Bio
Bill Bedford was a genuine VFA superstar who briefly tested his mettle at the elite level with Fitzroy during the mid-1930s. Originally hailing from Castlemaine, Bedford became a legend at Port Melbourne, where he established himself as a versatile key position player capable of dominating at both full-forward and full-back. After topping the Borough's goalkicking four times and winning their 1933 Best and Fairest, he was recruited by the Maroons as a 26-year-old mature-age prospect. Despite his formidable VFA reputation and a promising three-goal haul against St Kilda in just his third match, his VFL career was short-lived, lasting only five games before he returned to Port Melbourne. He remains a revered figure at the Borough, eventually being named in their Team of the Century.
