Bio
Recruited from local side Cheltenham, Bill Butler arrived at St Kilda in 1942 and became a steadfast fixture in the Saints' defence during the challenging years of the Second World War. A reliable backman who never troubled the scorers in his 58 senior appearances, Butler held down a key defensive post while the club struggled on the field, most notably enduring the winless 1944 campaign. Despite the team's lack of success during this era, he offered consistency in the back half, playing regular senior football for five seasons before departing the VFL scene at the end of 1946.
