Teams

Recruited from the Gippsland town of Yallourn, Bill Churchill joined South Melbourne in 1928 and quickly established himself as a capable target in the forward line. Standing 184cm, he made an immediate impression by booting four goals in just his second VFL appearance against Melbourne at the Lake Oval. While his senior career was ultimately brief, spanning just two seasons, Churchill proved to be a reliable avenue to goal for the Bloods, averaging more than a major per game during a period where the team struggled for consistency. He departed the league at the end of 1929, remembered as a handy goal-kicker who made a respectable contribution during his short stint in the red and white.
